Newport News, VA - March 20, 2006 Mary Immaculate Hospital is reportedly the first hospital in the State of Virginia to adopt the new technology of Anterior Hip Replacement for hip replacement patients.
Anterior Hip Replacement is an improvement on conventional hip replacement surgery. It is a technique that minimizes surgical pain and reduces the time from surgery to recovery. The Anterior Approach allows the hip to be replaced without detachment of muscle from the pelvis or femur during surgery. The surgeon can simply work through the natural interval between the muscles. The most important muscles for hip function, the gluteal muscles that attach to the pelvis and femur, are left undisturbed and therefore do not require a healing process.
Surgeons at Mary Immaculate Hospital are enthusiastic about the new procedure.
